Weekly Update, February 2nd, 2024

Hi church,

Last Sunday we concluded the magisterial passage of Scripture called the Sermon on the Mount. I hope Jesus’ words challenged and changed us! This week, we will look at another famous text - 1 Corinthians 13, often called “the love passage.” Love is the supreme virtue but perhaps we need some practical guidance in what love really looks like. This Sunday and next we will dig into this remarkable passage. 1 Corinthians 13:13 sums it up well: “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Scouts Food Drive

This is the last Sunday for the Scouts Food Drive. Non-perishable food may be placed in the tote in the atrium. They will donate the items to the Light House Shelter in Annapolis this coming week.

Date Night

On Friday, Feb. 16, we would like to bless the families of our church, as well as Awana and VBS families (as an outreach), with a parents’ night off to enjoy time together as a couple while the kids enjoy pizza and the Peanuts movie. Childcare will be provided for infants through 5th grade from 5:30pm-8pm. Please register your children at the Connect Center or in the Church Center app.

We also need childcare providers for this important ministry. If you are able to supervise children that evening, please sign up at the Connect Center or contact Melissa Gardner (melissa@weemscreek.com).

Games and Goodies

All women, age 6th grade on up, are invited to Games and Goodies, a Weems Creek women's fellowship event. Join us on Saturday, February 24, 2-4 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Come enjoy fun games and tasty game-day goodies. Invite your family and friends and bring your game face! Please sign up at the Connect Center.

Men’s Retreat

The Weems Creek men and high school boys are invited to join us for the annual Men’s Retreat at Camp Wabanna on March 8-9. Pastor Keith Grant will be presenting a seminar on A Praying Life. We will learn step-by-step how to develop a private life of prayer in fellowship with our heavenly Father. It will address such practical issues as how to stay focused, how to pray longer than 5 minutes, how to talk like a child to your Father in heaven, prayer as relationship, prayer as conversation, and problems in prayer. Prayer for Revival

Join us as we pray for each other, our church, community, and country. We will meet on Feb. 8 at 11am in room 112 and pray for an hour.

CentriKid and Fuge

Both camps are an overnight camp from July 8-12 with an emphasis on spiritual growth and lots of fun!

CentriKid is for children who will have completed 2nd – 6th grades and will be held at Skycroft Conference Center in Middletown, MD. The cost is $335. A $75 deposit is required by Feb. 11 (next Sunday). Please sign up at the Connect Center or contact Melissa at melissa@weemscreek.com.

Fuge is for children/teens who have completed 6th – 12th grades and will be held at Regent University in VA Beach. The cost of camp is $375. A $75 deposit is required by Feb. 4 (this Sunday). Please contact Pastor Alex (alex@weemscreek.com) to sign up.

Both groups are in need of chaperones for our children. Please contact Melissa or Alex if you are able to go.

SonShiners Planning Meeting

All SonShiners (55 ) are invited to join us for lunch and help plan activities for this year. We will meet at the Edgewater Pizza Hut at noon on Thursday, Feb. 15. Bring your appetite and your ideas! Please sign up at the Connect Center.

Knitting/Crafting

Everyone is invited to bring their latest craft project and join us for a time of fellowship as we create together. We will meet on Feb. 13 from 6:30-8pm in room 111. Knitting instructions available for anyone wanting to learn.
