Weekly Update - July 28th, 2023
Hi church,
VBS wrapped up last night and it was a great week! Thanks for your prayers! We had 92 kids and 47 volunteers participate, an average nightly attendance of 126, collected $700 for the North American Mission Board, AND had a few children express a readiness to learn more about accepting Jesus as their Savior! What a week! We look forward to hearing the kids sing this Sunday during the service. Then after church, we’ll celebrate even more (details below)!
Just a reminder about the new Sunday school class that starts this Sunday. Kurt Russell will lead the class on Colossians over 5 weeks. The class meets in room 110. It’s a great way to get involved in learning God’s word with others.
VBS Celebration
This Sunday, 7/30, we will have a big VBS celebration! The kids will sing during the service. Then after church (12:30-1:30), we will have free Kona Ice for the kids, a huge water slide, water toys, and each child will receive a gift bag! It will be a great way to cap off a great week! All children are welcome to participate even if they weren’t able to attend VBS. Kids may want to bring a change of clothes and a towel.
Business Meeting
We will have a business meeting on Aug. 9th at 6:25pm. We will conduct the normal business as well as vote on proceeding with the purchase of the minibus, which costs more than anticipated.
Back to School Family Celebration
Families with children in kindergarten through high school are invited to join us for a celebration on the hill behind the church on Friday, Aug. 18th from 6-9pm! We will have hot dogs, chips, soda, and roast s’mores at the fire pit! There will be outdoor games set up including cornhole, pickleball, and gaga ball. We will also show a movie on a big screen. Bring some lawn chairs or a blanket, your favorite movie snacks, and join us as we celebrate the start of a new school year! Please sign up so we have enough food. You can do that through the Church Center App (click on “More” in the bottom right of the screen) then Signups, or by clicking this link to Church Center, or at the Connect Center on Sunday.
Meet & Greet
We are looking forward to our next Meet & Greet on Aug. 13 immediately after the service! If you would like to make a snack, please contact Anna Goldman (annafgoldman@gmail.com). Name tags will be available in the atrium. Be sure to pick them up on your way in!
MOPS
MOPS will be returning to Weems Creek this fall! The first session is Sept. 15th and will meet on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month from 9:30-11:30am. In order to make this possible, we need childcare workers. If you are interested in helping with childcare or being a mentor mom, please sign up at the Connect Center. Childcare workers will be paid. Youth on the Road
Pastor Alex and the youth leaders will be taking the students “on the road” to see how their faith is intertwined in the everyday things we do. This will take place from Aug. 13-16. Contact Pastor Alex for more information. (alex@weemscreek.com).
SonShiners – Baysox Game
The SonShiners will be going to the Baysox vs. Altoona Curve on Aug. 17. The game starts at 6:30pm. If you would like to carpool, meet at church at 5pm. Tickets are $15. Checks may be made out to the church and given to Roger or Sarina or placed in the offering, clearly labeled “Baysox Game.” Please sign up at the Connect Center.
