Weekly Update, June 16th 2023
Hi church,
Our church will send 9 people to Greece this September 7-16 to minister to hurting communities in Athens by serving local churches and other organizations in need of assistance.
Projects may include light construction, painting, landscaping, hosting sport activities, distributing meals or helping pack bags of supplies. With help from our denominational entity known as Send Relief, we will partner with Greek Baptist churches and other ministries. We will minister to Greek nationals as well as international refugees since Greece is a major hub. Though Greece was the first European nation to hear the gospel, now less than 3% regularly attends church and less than 0.5% of its population is evangelical. Please pray for the preparation of our team and for our ministry impact. We will provide more details in the future as we learn them.
If you would like to contribute financially to the team’s travel expenses, you can donate to “Weems Creek Church” and designate it “Greek Mission 2023.”
HeartSong Counseling
We’re excited to announce a partnership with HeartSong Counseling, a biblical counseling ministry that can provide in-person and virtual services. HeartSong will be here on Sunday, July 9th to present during the Sunday School hour and will be available after the service. For more information, check out their website – www.heartsongcounseling.org.
Prayer for Revival
Join us as we pray for God to do a GREAT work of salvation, transformation, and renewal in our church, community, and nation. “Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation” (Psalm 85:6-7). We will meet in room 112 on Monday, June 19 at noon.
SonShiners Picnic
The SonShiners (55+) will be having a potluck picnic at Kinder Farm Park on Thursday, June 22 at noon. We have reserved a handicap accessible pavilion. The church will provide sandwiches and drinks. Please bring a side dish to share. Please sign up at the Connect Center. There is a $6 fee per vehicle to enter the park. If you would like to carpool, please indicate that on the sign-up sheet. The address is 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd, Millersville. The pavilion name is River Birch Pavilion.
Students Pool Party
The youth (middle school – high school) will be having a pool party at the Hallmark’s home on Saturday, June 24 from 4-8pm. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Bring a towel and a friend! Contact Pastor Alex (alex@weemscreek.com) for more information.
Serve Teams
Service is an important part of our walk with the Lord. Our desire is that every member and regular attender participate on at least one Serve Team. By doing so, each person can use their time and spiritual gifting to strengthen the church, advance the kingdom of God, and bring glory to Him. More information about Serve Teams is available at the Connect Center.
VBS Registration
VBS registration is open! Please register your child(ren) today as there are limited spots available. VBS is July 23-27 from 6-8:30 p.m. Classes are open to children who have finished Pre-K 4 through 5th grade. If you are a VBS worker and have a child younger than Pre-K 4, please register them as well. The theme this year is Twists & Turns. Spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win! You’ll need to bring your A-game for this VBS. Twists & Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. From classic tabletop games to video games and more, kids will play their way through VBS while learning that Jesus guides them through all the twists and turns of their lives. They’ll find that even when they mess up it’s never “game over.”
Soda Cartons for VBS
Please save your empty 12-pack soda cartons. We are collecting them to create a giant Jenga display for VBS. Empty cartons can be placed in the tote in the atrium coat closet.
See you Sunday!
Pastor Bryan
