Weekly Update - February 3rd, 2023

Hi church,

Hope everyone is staying warm! Winter has kicked in hard for a few days. I hope the New Testament Challenge has been encouraging and instructive so far. If you are keeping up, we finished the Gospel of Luke today. If you are a little behind, hang in there! Let us soak up the glory of Jesus fulfilling the great promises of salvation found in the Old Testament. In Luke 24:44, Jesus declared, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” What a Savior!

CentriKid – July 10-14

CentriKid is a high-energy, intentional, gospel-centered overnight camp for 2nd-6th graders. Their mission is to help kids experience the time of their lives and learn more about the message of Jesus Christ. This takes place through track times, rec, worship, Bible study, church group time, and a variety of other fun events. The children will be chaperoned by Weems Creek members. Visit the CentriKid website for more details. The deadline to register is next Sunday. A $75 deposit is required (total cost is $329). Sign up at the Connect Center. If you have questions, please see Adrian Mewshaw or Tracey Hawkins on Sunday. You may also email the church office. (office@weemscreek.com)

Women’s Retreat

The Weems Creek Women’s Ministry invites all ladies from 9th grade to age 109 to the 2023 Women’s Retreat, scheduled for Friday, March 3, starting at 6 pm, to Saturday, March 4, at 1 pm. The Retreat will be held at beautiful Camp Wabanna right on the bay in Edgewater, just 30 minutes from our church building. Please make plans to attend as we focus on how each of us is beautiful to our God and has a valuable purpose in His Kingdom work. To register, use the QR which is attached, or on the worship slides or the registration link available on the church website. Questions? Just ask. There is room for you at God’s “table” and we look forward to enjoying this time of fellowship, food and fun as we all learn more about our “place” at God’s table. Cost is $55 per attendant. Sponsor scholarships are available.

Vacation Bible School

July 23-27, 6-8:30pm. This year’s theme is Twists & Turns. Spin the spinner, beat the clock, skip ahead, level up, and play to win! You’ll need to bring your A-game for this VBS. Twists & Turns is a fantastical celebration of games of all kinds. From classic tabletop games to video games and more, kids will play their way through VBS while learning that Jesus guides them through all the twists and turns of their lives. They’ll find that even when they mess up it’s never “game over”. Is the Lord leading you to help with VBS this year? Sign-up at the Connect Center.

Questions About the Bible

Last Sunday evening (1/29, 5:30pm-7pm) we will begin a 3-week class to tackle important questions about the Bible. How can we study the Bible more effectively? How did we get the Bible? Why are these books included and not others like the Apocrypha? Is the Bible without error? Aren’t there contradictions in it? Are there reasons to believe it is inspired? How do we choose between different translations? I believe it is very helpful to answer these questions and clear away some of the misconceptions. Please note: this class will meet on 1/29, 2/5, and 2/19. There will be no class on 2/12.

Prayer Request

If you have a prayer request that you would like to put on the prayer chain, please email the request to office@weemscreek.com. The email address, prayerchain@weemscreek.com, is no longer active. If you would like to be added to the prayer chain email list, please let Tracey Hawkins know (office@weemscreek.com or 410-266-5527).

Pastor David was unable to take all of his books. This Sunday and next, these books will be available in the atrium for anyone who would like them, as well as additional church resources.
