Weekly Update - January 6, 2023

Hi Church,

Hope you enjoyed a blessed Christmas and New Years! I’m looking forward to serving at WCC in 2023. One area of ministry that we would love to expand is our media. When I say media, I am thinking of our video, photography, graphic design, social media, and website. In our technologically driven age, we must utilize media to share the gospel and to equip the church. If you are interested in using your talents and background in this area, we are going to have a meeting on January 22nd immediately after church.

Active Shooter Training

On Sunday evening, January 15th from 6-8pm, we will have an Active Shooter Training. This is a potentially lifesaving training and everyone is encouraged to attend. Though unlikely to happen, it is important to know what to do if it does. Carl Schinner, Chief of Police for the LaPlata Police Department, and a Weems Creek member, has put together the speakers for this important event. Please try to attend if at all possible. Childcare will not be provided so that childcare workers can attend the training.

Coats in Cruisers

We will be collecting gently used winter coats for the police department to hand out as needed. The biggest need is for men’s and women’s coats. All donations can be place in the designated area of the coat closet in the atrium.

New Sunday School Class

Dan & Barbara Mason will be leading a 6-week class using the book The Simplest Way to Change the World. This class will learn about God’s intended purpose for Biblical hospitality and explore ways to connect with others for the advancement of the Gospel. The class begins this Sunday at 9:45am in room 110 (downstairs in the hall with the water fountains.)

Prayer for Revival

If you would like to join in prayer that God might bring a spiritual revival to our nation, join us Monday, January 16th @ 12 noon in room 110. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1 Peter 3:12).

Questions about the Bible

Join us on Sunday nights starting January 29th at 5:30pm for a 3-week class on common questions about the Bible. It is so helpful to answer these questions so that our trust in Scripture is strengthened.
