Weekly Update - January 13th, 2023
Hi Church,
Last month, I preached on The Uniqueness and Power of Scripture. I hoped to encourage the church as many started the year with the New Testament Challenge. As a follow-up, I am going to set aside 3 weeks on Sunday nights to tackle important questions about the Bible that many people have.
- January 29 – How can we study the Bible more effectively?
- February 5 and 19 (no class on February 12) – How did we get the Bible? Why are these books included and not others like the Apocrypha? Is the Bible without error? Aren’t there contradictions in it? Are there reasons to believe it is inspired? How do we choose between different translations?
I believe it is very helpful to answer these questions and clear away some of the misconceptions.
Active Shooter Training
This Sunday evening, January 15th from 6-8pm, we will have an Active Shooter Training. This is a potentially lifesaving training and everyone is encouraged to attend. Though unlikely to happen, it is important to know what to do if it does. Carl Schinner, Chief of Police for the LaPlata Police Department, and a Weems Creek member, has put together the speakers for this important event. Please try to attend if at all possible. Childcare will not be provided so that childcare workers can attend the training.
Media Team
In our technologically driven age, we must utilize media to share the gospel and to equip the church. If you are interested in using your talents and background in this area, we will have a meeting on January 22nd immediately after church in the Multipurpose Room.
Wellspring Life Ministry (Pregnancy Clinic Ministry)
Wellspring greatly needs volunteers to ensure that they have the people to minister to the men and women who come through their doors. There will be a volunteer training which begins Feb. 8th from 9:30am-12:30pm at Faith Community Church in Gambrills. This is a 9-week comprehensive training on Wednesday mornings. The clinic has locations in Annapolis, Bowie, and Severna Park. Please see the full announcement at the bottom of this email. Flyers will be available at the Connect Center.
Coats in Cruisers
We will be collecting gently used winter coats for the Sheriff’s Department to hand out as needed. The biggest need is for men’s and women’s coats. All donations can be place in the designated area of the coat closet in the atrium.
Prayer for Revival
If you would like to join in prayer that God might bring a spiritual revival to our nation, join us Monday, January 16th @ 12 noon in room 112. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (1 Peter 3:12).
Business Meeting
We will have a business meeting on Jan. 18th at 6:25pm in the worship center. We will review financial reports, vote in new members, and hear a recommendation from the finance committee to amend the 2023 budget.
