Weekly Update December 7, 2024

Hi church,

I enjoyed an excellent training session with Capitol Ministries in Kentucky this past week. Thanks for praying. I will share more on Sunday. I want to invite you to participate with Christmas caroling this Sunday night. It's an exciting time to spread Christmas cheer, represent our Savior to the community, invite people to our Christmas Eve service, and seek opportunities to share about the hope of Christmas. We have 4 or 5 local spots, some inside and some outside (the weather looks a lot warmer on Sunday!). Please note, we want everyone to arrive by 6pm at the latest so that we can gather into groups, give instructions, pray, and leave by 6:15pm. One location (Sunrise Assisted Living) requested a group by 6:15pm. Please be punctual! We will return to the church around 7pm for some cookies and cocoa.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

During the month of December, we collect a special offering, The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, named after the woman who was sent as a Southern Baptist missionary to China from 1873 to 1912. She saw firsthand the world’s greatest problem — LOSTNESS. Meeting so many people who had never heard the gospel compelled her to write letters to American churches describing the need for a greater missionary presence. She pleaded for increased prayer and financial support to send and sustain more missionaries. This challenge became known as the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering®. 100% of your donation supports international missionary presence. This year, our church’s goal is $22,000.

Weems Creek Apparel

If you ordered Weems Creek apparel, it has arrived! You may pick up your order at the Connect Center on Sunday.

Cookies & Cocoa

Ladies (6th grade and older), make plans to join us for a cup of hot cocoa, a Christmas cookie or two, and a fun time of fellowship. The annual Women’s Ministry Cookies & Cocoa will take place Saturday, Dec. 14 from 1-3pm. You are invited to bring 1) a dozen of your favorite Christmas cookies to share, 2) a friend or two, 3) and a dose of holiday cheer! We will enjoy some fun games, great fellowship, and, of course, cookies and cocoa WITH ALL THE TOPPINGS! Please sign up in the church app, at the Connect Center, or by using this link: Cookies & Cocoa. You don’t want to miss this fellowship!

Business Meeting

Our next business meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 6pm. This is an important meeting, as we will vote on the proposed budget for 2025 and review the November financial reports. Copies of the proposed budget are available at the Connect Center. Please review it before the meeting and come prepared with any questions. This will not be a long meeting as we want to honor the times of Bible studies, Awana, and worship team rehearsal.

Museum of the Bible with Weems Creek Families

Families with school-aged kids! Wrap up 2024 with other Weems Creek families at the Museum of the Bible on Tuesday, December 31st from 10-5pm. We will meet at the Museum entrance at 10am and enjoy the day together! Stay as short or long as you'd like, grab lunch with some friends, and enjoy all the amazing exhibits this museum has to offer!

Admission is FREE however registration is required so we can be sure to have the correct number of tickets. A waitlist will be available and we will try to obtain more tickets if needed. Register your family here: Museum of the Bible for Families

Women’s Bible Study

** Women’s Bible Study has decided to wait until the first of the year to start the next study. They are using the book, Finding God Faithful by Kelly Minter. This study is offered at 3 different times – Tuesdays at 10am (Tuesday Registration) , Wednesdays at 6:30 pm (Wednesday Registration), and Saturdays at 9:30am (Saturday Registration). You may also sign up at the Connect Center. Books are available at the Connect Center.

Christmas Devotionals

To help us focus on Christmas, we are giving out free devotionals to use in the month of December. First, we are giving away the family devotional "The Way to the Manger." Go to the Children's check-in station to receive a copy. Also, we are offering "Everyday Gospel Christmas Devotional" by Paul David Tripp, a very popular writer and “Why the Nativity?” by David Jeremiah. Please choose one of the adult devotionals. They can be found at the Connect Center.
