Weekly Update - August 11th, 2023

Hi church,

I made the move yesterday! I am now living here full-time and excited for this new chapter of life and ministry. God has been good the past year with all of the commuting. Amazingly, I never missed a train! Thanks again for the prayers and support along the way. My wife Angela will be moving here in 3 weeks.

This Sunday, I will finish the message from Acts 17 as Paul spoke in Athens, Greece. I believe it is one of the most important speeches in the Bible, particularly as it equips us in our witness to a skeptical, pluralistic culture. Also, we kick off the 30 days of prayer for our mission trip to Greece in September.

Meet & Greet

Join us this Sunday for another Meet & Greet after the service. This is a great time to introduce yourself to someone you don’t know. Name tags will be available in the atrium. Be sure to pick them up on your way in! We will also have some light refreshments.

Back to School Family Celebration

Families with children in kindergarten through high school are invited to join us for a celebration on the hill behind the church on Friday, Aug. 18th from 6-9pm! We will have hot dogs, chips, soda, and roast s’mores at the fire pit! There will be outdoor games set up including cornhole, pickleball, and gaga ball. We will also show The Super Mario Bros. Movie on a big screen. Bring some lawn chairs or a blanket, your favorite movie snacks, and join us as we celebrate the start of a new school year! Please sign up so we have enough food. You can do that through the Church Center App (click on “More” in the bottom right of the screen) or at the Connect Center on Sunday.

New Sermon Series

Next week, we begin a 3-week series “God, Sexuality, and Gender.” This subject has become perhaps the most prominent issue of our culture and a tremendous challenge to the church. The answer is not to avoid the issue or to lash out. Rather, it is vital for Christians to be biblically informed and adopt an approach that is courageous and compassionate. If parents are uncomfortable with their children listening to the sermon, we will offer childcare in the multipurpose room for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.

MOPS

MOPS will be returning to Weems Creek this fall! The first session is Sept. 15th and will meet twice monthly on Fridays from 9:30-11:30am. In order to make this possible, we need childcare workers. If you are interested in helping with childcare or being a mentor mom, please sign up at the Connect Center. Childcare workers will be paid. For more information, contact Melissa Gardner (melissa@weemscreek.com). Registration is now open for moms who want to attend! You can register in the Church Center app or at weemscreek.com/mops.

Annual Church Picnic

Join us for our annual church picnic on Sunday, Sept. 17th at 12:30pm. Bring a blanket or chair and a dish or two to share! The church will provide all paper products and drinks. We’ll have a bounce house for the kids and outdoor games for everyone. We need volunteers to help set up, break down and man the bounce house for 30-minute time slots. If you can help, please sign up at the Connect Center.

Youth on the Road

Pastor Alex and the youth leaders will be taking the students “on the road” to see how their faith is intertwined in the everyday things we do. This will take place from Aug. 13-16. Contact Pastor Alex for more information (alex@weemscreek.com).

SonShiners – Baysox Game

The SonShiners will be going to the Baysox vs. Altoona Curve on Aug. 17. The game starts at 6:30pm. If you would like to carpool, meet at church at 5pm. Tickets have already been purchased but if you would still like to go, you can get tickets at the door.

See you Sunday!

Pastor Bryan
